Hello Beautiful Souls,
Let’s talk about that persistent inner critic—the voice that constantly questions your worth and abilities. Microdosing psilocybin offers a powerful way to quiet that voice and create space for more compassion and self-acceptance. In this mini guide, I’ll walk you through how microdosing can help calm your inner critic and provide some practical tips to support your journey.
How Microdosing Calms the Inner Critic
Microdosing psilocybin impacts the brain’s default mode network (DMN), reducing overactive self-referential thoughts like rumination and harsh self-judgment. It allows your mind to detach from repetitive negative loops and open up to new possibilities. This shift helps create more emotional flexibility, allowing you to break free from that critical voice and replace it with self-compassion and curiosity.
The Inner Critic as a Guardian
On an energetic level, the inner critic can be seen as a protective guardian, trying to shield you from failure. However, its approach is often fear-based, limiting your potential. Microdosing allows you to shift this relationship, transforming the critic into an ally. When you soften the critic’s voice, you invite in a more loving, wise guide who supports your growth rather than holding you back.
Healing the Energy Body
Let’s get a little woo here: microdosing doesn’t just impact your thoughts, it also helps release old energetic patterns tied to self-doubt and judgment. As the psilocybin works through your system, it clears emotional energetic debris that has accumulated over time, making way for lightness, freedom, and deeper connection to your heart center—the true home of compassion and self-acceptance.
Your Mini Guide to Quieting the Inner Critic with Microdosing
If you're ready to embrace a more compassionate inner dialogue, here are some practical tips to get started:
Set Your Intention: Start each microdosing session by setting a clear intention. Whether it’s quieting the inner critic or fostering self-compassion, having a focused goal will help guide your experience. Write your intention down and reflect on it before each dose.
Create a Reflective Space: Find a peaceful environment where you can process your thoughts and emotions. Journaling can be particularly effective in observing and releasing negative inner chatter. Write down what your inner critic is saying, and then challenge those thoughts. Ask yourself: are they really true?
Pair with Meditation: Combine microdosing with mindfulness or meditation practices. By sitting with your thoughts and observing them without judgment, you give yourself the space to let go of negativity. Try focusing on your breath and noticing when your inner critic arises. Instead of engaging, simply observe the thoughts pass by like clouds.
Develop a Self-Compassion Routine: As you quiet the inner critic, begin nurturing self-compassion through small daily practices. This can include positive affirmations, mindfulness, or simply being gentle with yourself in moments of struggle. Affirmations like “I am enough” or “I am worthy of love and respect” can help rewire your brain for kindness.
Use Visualization: During your microdosing practice, try visualizing your inner critic as a character you can engage with. Picture it shrinking in size or taking on a gentler tone as you assert more compassionate and empowering thoughts. Visualization can help you take control of the narrative your mind is telling.
Integrate with Nature: If possible, spend some time outdoors while microdosing. Nature has a grounding effect that helps soothe the nervous system and offers a perfect backdrop for reflection. Walking in nature can calm the mind and offer perspective, helping to quiet the critical voice and promote inner peace.
Stay Consistent, But Gentle: The effects of microdosing on the inner critic may take time. Consistency is key, but be gentle with yourself through the process. It’s not about completely silencing that voice overnight, but about softening it and making space for a kinder inner dialogue.
Surround Yourself with Support: Whether through a guide, community, or friends who understand your journey, having a support system is invaluable. Sharing your experiences with others can help you process what’s coming up and keep you grounded as you navigate the shifts within.
Practice Gratitude: As you work on calming your inner critic, practice daily gratitude for the shifts you experience, no matter how small. Acknowledge the moments when your inner critic is quiet, and celebrate the progress you’re making. Gratitude can help reinforce positive changes and solidify new, healthier thought patterns.
Balance the Dose: Start with a low microdose and adjust as necessary. Everyone’s sensitivity is different, and it's important to find a dosage that allows you to function normally while benefiting from its subtle effects. A balanced dose will help you engage with your inner work without feeling overwhelmed.

The Importance of Psychedelic Harm Reduction
As psychedelics gain popularity, it’s crucial to emphasize the importance of harm reduction. This approach ensures safe, responsible use, minimizing risks while maximizing benefits. Harm reduction isn’t just about dosage; it’s about education, preparation, integration, and setting up a safe environment. Ensuring that individuals understand the potential effects, both positive and challenging, allows for more informed, conscious experiences.
Unfortunately, I hear weekly about trip sitters, microdose mentors, and guides engaging in harmful practices. Most of these people have great intentions—they’ve experienced a handful of journeys, taken microdoses, and have been helped themselves. However, without proper education, training, or a deep understanding of harm reduction, even well-intentioned guides can unintentionally cause harm.
Harm reduction also includes reviewing contraindications and understanding an individual's medical history. Psychedelics can interact with certain medications or exacerbate underlying conditions, which makes it crucial to know if a person has any health risks before embarking on a journey. This is especially important for individuals on SSRIs, those with heart conditions, or anyone with a history of mental health challenges such as psychosis.
Some people step into this work thinking it will be a quick path to profit. However, they soon realize that the real value lies in heart-centered, ethical guidance rather than financial gain. Without a deep understanding of the legal, ethical, and psychological complexities, offering guidance in this space can be risky. Providing support without proper training or integration strategies can lead to harm, even with the best of intentions. True psychedelic work requires responsibility, education, and care for those you’re guiding.
Harm reduction also includes having emotional and psychological support systems in place, especially if difficult emotions arise. For those stepping into psychedelic spaces, harm reduction strategies allow for exploration without bypassing safety. I always encourage clients to approach their journeys with respect, education, and mindfulness to ensure positive, healing experiences.
